Postgraduate Programs

IIT Gandhinagar offers diverse postgraduate programs in engineering, sciences, and humanities, focused on academic excellence, research innovation, and interdisciplinary learning.

MTech Programs

The MTech program at IITGN is a two-year postgraduate degree with a focus on coursework, research, and project-based learning. Students are admitted through GATE and can also be supported via Teaching Assistantships or external fellowships.

The institute offers MTech programs in the following disciplines:

Students have a lot of flexibility in designing their academic path and can carry out their research even outside their immediate discipline or even in industry, all while developing an insight and perspective that is geared towards pushing the boundaries of knowledge. The programme aims at graduating well-rounded engineers ready to pursue leadership careers in R&D, teaching or industry.

MSc Programs

IITGN offers two-year MSc programs in core science disciplines. These programs emphasize conceptual clarity, experimental training, and research exposure. The MSc program includes the following features that echo the core philosophies of the institute:

• It enables students to acquire substantial breadth and depth in their areas of study. • It orients and enables student attitudes towards scientific research. • It exposes students to areas beyond their core subjects. • It has mandatory curriculum components originating from humanities and social sciences.

The admission to the Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics disciplines is through the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. while admission to the Cognitive Science program is through the Institute's own written test and interview process.

MA Program in Society and Culture

The MA in Society and Culture is a unique, two-year interdisciplinary program housed in the Humanities and Social Sciences discipline. It brings together history, literature, anthropology, sociology, political science, and more.

PhD Programs

IIT Gandhinagar offers full-time and part-time PhD programs across various disciplines in engineering, sciences, and humanities. The fundamental mission of the PhD programme of IITGN is to foster creative and scholarly inquiry while inculcating intellectual habits required for successful careers in teaching, research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Areas of Research include:

  • Engineering: Artificial Intelligence, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Materials, etc.
  • Sciences: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Cognitive Science
  • Humanities and Social Sciences: Literature, Philosophy, Sociology, History, Political Science

PhD students are supported via Institute Fellowships, Sponsored Research, or External Fellowships. A unique feature is the flexible structure that allows early transition from MSc/MTech to PhD.
